SKINCARE ROUTINE FOR OILY ACNE PRONE SKIN
Managing oily skin can really be a struggle and sometimes it takes years to find out the perfect skincare routine that will suit your oily skin. But through some trial and error methods, I have found out the perfect skincare daily routine for oily skin which can ease your struggle.
These skin care tips will help you in getting that crystal clear skin that we all dream for and you will flaunt your fresh looking face all day. The most common challenges that oily skin can face are :
- Acne breakouts
- Greasiness or a shiny complexion
- Very large visible pores
- Clogged pores and blackheads
The symptoms may vary from person to person because it majorly depends upon genetics. Hormonal changes and high-stress levels may also increase the production of oil by the skin.
Follow this tried and tested skincare routine for your oily skin.
A six-step skincare routine is all you need to do.
Use a good exfoliating cleanser both in the morning and night. Do not cleanse your face more than twice because it will dry out your skin and your skin oil glands will end up producing more oil which will make your skin greasier.
The cleanser should be either foaming or gel-based which will not dry out your skin and will remove all the impurities and leave your skin clean and refreshed.
The best cleanser for oily skin should be the one that contains Salicylic Acid and also Tea Tree Oil.
Try the CeraVe Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser with benzoyl peroxide. It also contains ceramides, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid. It cleans your skin and removes oil without taking away the natural moisture of the skin.
You can also go for Re’equil Oil Control Anti-Acne Face Wash for oily, sensitive and acne-prone skin. It is free of parabens, sulfates, and silicone. It contains Zinc PCA that has antibacterial properties and thus fights against acne-causing bacteria.
This step is not for every day.
Use a mild exfoliator at least twice a week. This will help your skin to clear out the dead skin cells and prevent clogged pores. You can also go for Neutrogena deep clean blackhead eliminating daily scrub or Clean and Clear Blackhead Clearing Daily Scrub if you also have the problem of blackheads.
Both the scrubs are mild and gentle on skin and help in clearing out the blackheads without drying out your skin.
Use an alcohol-free non-comedogenic toner that contains either Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, or Lactic Acid.
Toners help in normalizing your skin’s pH level and take out the remaining impurities in your skin, as well as normalize skin complexion. Soak a cotton pad with the toner and gently sweep it around your face, but avoid the eye area.
You can go for Plum Green Tea Alcohol-free toner or Kaya Purifying toner.
Never skip this step. Even though you have oily skin but that does not mean that you can forego moisturizer altogether. Using the correct moisturizer will show you the importance as your skin will not feel at all greasy and tacky.
Use a non-comedogenic and lightweight and matte moisturizer which will keep the moisture locked into your skin and will keep it protected.
It should be gel-based or water-based. You can try out Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel or Plum Matte moisturizer.
Trust me never skip this step even if you are not getting out of your home. I learned this very late but it is a very crucial part of your daytime skincare routine. It will prevent premature aging by protecting your skin from harsh UV rays.
Again go for a non-comedogenic sunscreen which consists of titanium dioxide or zinc oxide as both the ingredients help in preventing acne breakouts. You can go for Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 50+ or Mamaearth’s Ultra Light Natural Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50 PA +++.
Evening Skincare Routine
The first step in the evening skincare routine should be removing all the makeup, dirt, and other impurities from your skin.
Look for micellar water that goes on with oily skin. You can use L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser for Normal to Oily Skin.
Use a cotton pad and sweep it all across your face until all the dirt and makeup are completely gone.
After you are done with removing all your makeup, use a cleanser to clear out the pores thoroughly and any other residue that is still left on the surface of the skin.
You can try out Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne-Wash or Plum Green Tea Pore Cleansing Face Wash.
Use a toner similarly as the morning skincare routine. It will balance the pH as well as will prepare your skin for further steps.
Once a week, you can take out some time to apply a mask that can do wonders for your oily skin. A clay mask or a charcoal mask will be the best for oily skin. As both the ingredients help in clearing and calming your skin.
Look for ingredients like kaolin and bentonite clays. They help in absorbing excess oil and mattify your skin.
On the other hand, your skin will also love an exfoliating mask or a Glycolic Acid peel.
Go for The body shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask or Plum Green Tea Clear Face Mask. You can also try a pink face mask like Dot & Key Glow reviving Vitamin C Pink Clay Mask.
You can use the Dot & Key 10% AHA and 2% BHA Hydro Peel Glow Potion. It is much safe and mild on the skin with no harmful chemicals.
If these masks dry out your skin there is no harm in using a hydrating sheet mask afterward.
Now as we are dealing with oily skin, you need to choose a serum that is very lightweight and easily seeps into your skin. You can skip this step in the day time but should do in the night time as your skin needs some hydration.
Serums also help in reducing the fine lines and brightening up your complexion, for example, Retinol.
Try out St. Botanica Retinol Serum. It is having 2.5% of Retinol along with Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid. It helps in reducing the fine lines and wrinkles and rejuvenates the skin.
Other options are mCaffeine Naked Detox Green Tea Face Serum or Kaya Youth Oxy-Infusion Face Serum. Both are good for oily skin and helps in exfoliation and gives that glow to the skin.
Night cream and Eye cream
Use a night cream that will act as a moisturizer along with targetting the other skin concerns. Look for anti-aging ingredients like Retinol, Glycolic Acid, and Hyaluronic Acid. These components also help in removing dark spots and giving an even skin tone.
You can choose the gel formulas like Plum Green Tea Renewed Clarity Night Gel or the Nature Republic Aloe Vera Gel.

The final step of the evening skincare routine will be hydrating the delicate skin around your eyes.
Use a nourishing cream that targets the dark circles, fine lines, and reduces puffiness.
Go for Olay Ultimate Eye Cream (Dark circles, wrinkles, and puffiness)
Few other steps which can help in treating Oily skin:
-Use blotting paper to absorb excess oil throughout the day.
-Do not wash your face more than 2 times because it can make your skin dry and eventually the sebaceous glands will end up producing more oil, making your skin more greasy.
– Definitely wash your face after exercise. Wash your face with a mild cleanser and then apply a light moisturizer.
-If you feel like washing your face apart from the a.m. and p.m. routine, use warm water.
-You can also use ice cubes to tighten up and minimize the skin pores.
-Also, avoid products that contain alcohol.
